In January, Microsoft made a major announcement for Windows 7 and 8 user. Later this year, the tech giant will release the Windows 10 upgrade to the public, but those who are still on an outdated operating system will have a major advantage.
While there isn't a release date for when the new system will be available, those who install it on their Windows 7 or 8 PC, or their Windows Phone, will be able to get the upgrade for free during its first year. Those who wait will have to pay for it after that year window closes.
Once the user has claimed the upgrade, Microsoft will provide a lifetime of support for upkeep of the OS. Because of the issues some users have experienced with Windows 8, some have opted to refrain from upgrading and continue to use Windows 7. Addressing this concern, Microsoft has said that Windows 10 will be easy for customers to navigate and use.
"It is our intent that most of these devices will qualify, but some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. We will be sharing more information and additional offer terms in coming months," Microsoft said in an official statement on its website.
