There have been rumors circulating like crazy as to whether or not Apple will be releasing the iPad 3 in March, and it seems that they have finally may be doing just that. On Wednesday, February 29, Apple issued an invitation to press that consisted of one sentence: "We have something you really have to see. And touch."
Alongside the text was the partial image of an iPad, with someone's finger on the device's calender application - which displayed the number seven.
The unveiling of the latest version of the tablet is taking place at 10 a.m. Pacific Time in San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, which has been the location of several of its previous press conferences in the past.
Enhanced networking, processor and camera features are expected, but nothing is confirmed. In particular, an improved display quality is up for debate by many.
"This big feature rumored to be coming to this year's model is a display that packs four times the number of pixels as the first and second-generation models, bearing resemblance to the so-called Retina Displays found on the company's recent model iPhones and iPod Touches," wrote technology expert and CNET staff writer, Josh Lowensohn, in a recent post.
Since the first iPad was introduced, Apple has sold more than 55 million tablets, and, according to Mashable, experienced its most successful year ever in 2011, selling 156 million iOS devices including iPads, iPhones and iPods, in addition to computers such as the Macbook Pro and MacBook Air.
