PC Magazine, a major technology publication, has a list of the best ultraportable laptops available, and at the top of this list is the MacBook Air. Featuring models from other manufacturers, including Asus, Lenovo, Dell and Toshiba, the Air was both the highest rated notebook as well as one of the most affordable, which is surprising given that Apple has a reputation for charging a premium for its products.
The reputation doesn't appear to be justified. Of the 10 laptops listed, only the Acer Aspire S7-191-6640 and the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15z-b000 had lower price tags, and neither of those models achieved the same customer and editor's scores for performance.
"If you need to do real work on a plane, train, or out in the field, get a MacBook Air 13-inch," said PC Magazine's review of the Air. "The new MacBook Air 13-inch lasted a staggering 15 hours 33 minutes on our battery rundown test."
Last month at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, CEO Tim Cook announced new hardware updates for the MacBook Air, including faster CPUs, improved screen resolution and better connections between solid state drives and the motherboard. These changes have resulted in faster boot times and data access, as well as decreased power usage.
The success of the Apple MacBook Air and Pro lineups is due in no small part to the fact that these are some of the best designed and constructed mobile computing devices on the market.
