Apple is a company that dominates many areas of the technology market. Their smartphones and laptops - including the popular Macbook Pro and Macbook Air - are unparalleled in their style and functionality. But despite the company's enormous success since the introduction of the iPod in 2001, there is one area where Apple has struggled: Television. While Steve Jobs unveiled the Apple TV in 2007, a lack of content caused it to struggle for success, and it never caught fire the way other Apple products have. An updated version was introduced in 2010, but it became just another option in an already crowded TV market.
But a renewed marketing push from the company might turn this all around. On the main Apple website, the television has been given a spot next to the insanely popular Macs, iPhones and iPads. Industry experts argue that this valuable advertising real estate gives credibility to the rumors that Apple is set to debut a brand new television set. According to several reports, the new technology will include wireless routers, an Apple interface for controlling cable boxes and the ability to play games with an iPhone or iPad.
"That is some pretty valuable real estate on their website. If they considered Apple TV as a hobby, which is how they have described it in the past, hobbies don't deserve top-of-the-fold treatment," Gene Munster, managing director and senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray, told NBC News.
Others have said that it is not a question of whether or not a new Apple TV set is coming, but when it will be introduced to the public. A heavier marketing campaign for the existing models is the perfect way to get the public introduced in what the company is going to produce.
