Anticipation is building inside and outside of Silicon Valley for the release of the new version of the iPhone: the iPhone 6. While Apple has not officially disclosed much information about the new smartphone, insiders expect that the device will be introduced to the public sometime in the early fall. For the past few months, rumors have swirled about what the phone will look like.
According to Apple rumor website 9to5Mac, the tech company is reportedly testing a larger resolution screen for the iPhone 6. It is believed that Apple is going to roll out two versions of the iPhone later this year, a smaller version at 4.7 inches and a larger model at 5.5 inches. The increased resolution - 1704x960 pixels - will only be available for one, but for which is not yet known.
The resolution is going to be much sharper with the new iPhones, with the amount of pixels being greatly increased. The display screen of the current iPhone 5 models - 5C and 5S - are limited to 640x1136 pixels. The iPhone 6 that comes with the better resolution screen will feature 960x1704 pixels, creating a much better display for the Apple customer.
The 5.5 inch iPhone 6 is expected to be produced in limited numbers, as the screen is going to be made with sturdy, but very expensive, sapphire. While this will increase the aesthetic appeal of the iPhone, as well as create a device that is more impervious to damage than current models, it will be very costly for the company to produce on a large scale. The number of phones produced with the sapphire is not currently known.
