Apple's iWatch - the latest in its line of smart device technology - was one of the most highly-anticipated releases of this fall. It was originally scheduled to be unveiled sometime around the iPhone 6's announcement, which is slated for September, though there was no clear timeline for when. Now, according to a new report from a Chinese tech industry analyst, the iWatch likely won't come out until 2015.
KGI Securities, which made the claim earlier this week, cites several sources for why the iWatch is likely to be delayed to next year. Simply put, the new watch's internal components require a new and complicated manufacturing method from Apple that is proving more difficult than originally anticipated.
While rumors have been flying around the iWatch for several months, KGI Securities has a proven track record of being right when it comes to their predictions about Apple. Analysts for the company speak directly with the suppliers in Asia that make the parts for Apple's various products to get an idea of how production is going.
"While we are positive on iWatch and believe that the advantages of the design and business model behind it are difficult to copy, we think, given the aforementioned challenges, that the launch could be postponed to 2015," KGI Securities tells the Financial Post.
