John Wei, an Australian software developer, has created a new iPhone app that will function as a garage door opener. Wei created a Kickstarter page to seek funding - $5,000 - to complete the project, hoping to have it in Apple's app store and available to the general public for purchase by October. It will completely eliminate the need for a separate physical garage door opener.
Wei believes that the app - called Lift - could be revolutionary in the technology world and how we live our everyday lives. The app will give us a greater sense of security, since our garage door openers will always be with us and not left anywhere that could be vulnerable. It will also help prevent inconvenient situations, like the one Wei faced when he first came up with his idea.
"Last year my garage door opener's remote control was broken, and it was a pain that we have to share only one remote control," stated Wei. "Suddenly an idea came up, wouldn't it be so cool and so convenient if we can open the garage door with our iPhone?"
After this incident, Wei created his app's prototype, which syncs with the newest version of the iPhone. Wei is happy with the progress his app is making, which is why he has been so aggressive in finding funding for this project, as well as setting a clear goal of releasing in the fall. Wei is working hard to meet this ultimate target.
