Apple has traditionally followed a staggered release date for their new products, releasing different items to the public on different days. However, many in the tech world speculated that the company would break this tradition with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite systems and release them on the same day, as they share various Continuity apps and features. This kind of integration is meant to allow the two operating systems to work together seamlessly, almost as two parts of the same whole.
But, according to a recent report from 9to5Mac, Apple will indeed be releasing the systems upgrades on separate days. iOS 8 is expected to launch in late September along with the iPhone 6, while OS X Yosemite will be held back until sometime in October. This will follow the same pattern that Apple followed last year, when the iPhone 5 was first distributed in September with OS Mavericks not being available until a month later. 9to5Mac cited those familiar with the details in its report.
What Continuity does is allow consumers to use their devices as if they are the same. For example, a person can begin writing an email on their iPhone and then finish it on another Apple device. This kind of integration will be taken to a new level with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, which is why many thought it was a great marketing opportunity for Apple to cross-promote the new products with a same-day release. Both systems currently have rounds of beta testing out to a certain number of users for feedback and criticism.
