Earlier this week, Apple CEO Tim Cook took to the stage to officially unveil the latest products in Apple's line of devices. The iPhone 6 and Apple Watch have been eagerly anticipated by the public, and after months of intense speculation as to what these items will look like, we now have a much better idea of what they have to offer.
Although the smart watch will not be available for sale until early 2015, you can get your hands on the new iPhone as early as September 19. What should you do with your old phone? There are two very good options - sell it, or trade it in.
Here are a few ways to prepare your phone for either choice:
- Back up data: Before you give up the smartphone in a sale or trade-in, you should make sure that you have all of the information on it that you want to keep saved to another device. Once out of your possession and wiped clean, you won't be able to retrieve any photos or music that you were storing on your phone. Connect your iPhone to your Macbook Pro or Macbook Air with a cable to sync up and transfer over everything you would like to keep, or upload your files to iCloud. This way, nothing gets lost!
- Destruction: Once you have everything you wanted stored away safely, you can wipe your iPhone completely clean. This will ensure that your personal information cannot be used by whomever happens to own the device after you. To destroy all of the data that is left over, simply go to the "General" page under "Settings" and select Erase All Contents and Settings. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to clear the phone, and if you select yes the device will be like new again.
