Even after an incredibly successful year at the helm of Apple - overseeing the launch of two new iPads, the incredible iPhone 5, the iPad mini, Retina MacBook Pros and of course the super-thin and even faster iMac - some members of the tech community are worried that the company from Cupertino is floundering without its storied former leader, Steve Jobs.
And, since Apple almost went bankrupt during the 1990s while he was away from the company, their worries are not unfounded. Anyone who is looking at the facts and speed at which this company is innovating should be able to see that Apple isn't without a visionary leader, it just has a different one from before. That, among other things, is what Daring Fireball blogger John Gruber asserted in a post on his website today.
He was directly addressing an article that claimed that, because Apple is a closed system, it will ultimately meet its demise. Gruber's response to that was to point out the aspects of quality that make individuals want to buy Apple products. Then, he addressed the fact that the old tech axiom, "Open is better than closed," might not even be true.
Gruber doesn't subscribe to that particular adage, as there are too many counterexamples, and open systems aren't directly in competition with closed ones. Instead, he proposes a different rule.
"Would not a simpler theory be that companies with visionary leaders and talented designers (or employees in general) tend to succeed?" he wrote.
The fact is, the intellectual and innovative wealth of talent at Apple isn't going anywhere for some time, so we can expect it to remain on top for the foreseeable future.
Here at PortableOne, we agree with Gruber, which is why we're still making customized laptops from Apple more than any other brand. Call an expert today to get started on yours.
