Apple's suite of office applications, iWork, has been updated with several tools that will enable collaboration between users and enhance cloud functionality. Similar to Google Docs and Microsoft Office 365, Apple news site MacRumors reports that iWork will now run as a browser-based web app, where documents can be accessed simultaneously by multiple users who can then edit those files at the same time.
The iWork suite, which includes Pages (word processing), Numbers (spreadsheets) and Keynote (presentations), features seamless integration with iCloud, the company's cloud service that has become a more important part of the way Apple users interact with their software. In addition to iWork, iCloud also syncs with iTunes accounts and iLife programs so that you can access files and information anywhere.
Besides the new collaboration features, there are a number of user experience improvements to iWork, including the ability to skip slides during slideshow playback, a more streamlined printing process and better organizational tools for creating folders.
By making iWork available as a browser-based program, it enables professionals more flexibility when traveling and roving around the office. It's no longer necessary to carry a computer with you everywhere, as you can access the same tools and documents from any device, including an iPhone or an iPad mini.
The fact that so many office suites are migrating to the cloud is further proof that businesspeople and casual users who want to stay ahead of the game should invest in a mobile computing solution such as the MacBook Pro 15" Retina Laptop.
