With all of the attention being placed on the newest iPhones, one would be forgiven for not noticing that today Apple unveiled updates to the iMac, its signature all-in-one desktop. Apple Mac computers remain the cream of the crop, and the new changes only serve to reinforce the company's place atop the tech industry.
Among the more notable updates is the inclusion of Intel Haswell processors, which deliver blazing processing speeds using less power than previous models. The 21.5 inch iMac comes with a quad-core Intel Core i5 that can be clocked up to 3.2 GHz, while the 27 inch model has a quad-core Intel Core i7 that can be turbo boosted up to 3.9 GHz.
Another great addition to the iMac line is the option for users to upgrade a solid state drive (SSD) with a PCI-e connection, which Apple states is up to 50 percent faster than a traditional SATA connection that you would typically find in any other computer.
Apple also gave a boost to the graphics card of the higher-end iMac, giving customers a choice of upgrading to a Nvidia GTX 780M card with more RAM and a faster GPU than the previous generation. The iMac has always been a superb machine for editing high-definition video, graphics and photographs, so a more powerful video card will certainly help in those areas.
The company is including with the new iMac an updated 802.11ac WiFi card, which provides a performance boost for internet connectivity, increasing the range and speed of network connections.
