Apple's car driving assistant app, known as Automatic, is going to be getting a redesign and update before the 2.0 version debuts in the app store in the near future. Although Automatic has been around since October of last year, it has only recently become popular in the mainstream. The new design, according to Apple, aims to make the feature "lighter, faster and more modern" while also making it more useful for consumers.
Automatic is able to track and record your driving abilities, both the good and the bad. It will calculate how fast you are driving, determine whether or not you accelerate or slow down too quickly, create a map of the routes you drive and drops a pin whenever you park the car. All of this information can later be retrieved by the user, so they can see how well they drive and what changes they should be making in order to be safer while out on the road.
This feature from Apple has other practical applications, as a consumer will receive a text message if something is wrong with the car, such as the check engine light coming on. The updated version of Automatic will let a person know their car's fuel levels, and be able to provide an exact measurement of how many more miles they can drive before running out of gas, based on past driving behaviors. This goes well beyond the standard dashboard light.
