It has previously been hinted at in various publications that Apple is gearing up to enter into the healthcare scene by creating new apps and products specifically designed for its mobile devices. With the annual developers' conference beginning on Monday, June 2, the tech giant is expected to unveil the early version of Healthbook, a new health-tracking mobile app.
The app will have several different functions with the purpose of helping a person track their fitness progress. It is designed to be able to track a user's food and hydration intake as well as sleeping habits to determine levels of health. The feature can also mark nutrition, weight and general fitness through its usage.
What will separate this feature from competitors is how it can be accessed. The Apple iWatch - which is expected to make its debut later this year - will be another way for users to replace any third-party fitness apps that already exist. Apple is expected to lead the way of technology companies breaking into the health market with an increased emphasis on consumer engagement.
"An Apple-provided health application will bring a lot more attention to the benefits that tracking your health data on a smartphone can provide," tech engineer Paul Haddad told the New York Times. "This means that the overall market for health-style apps will grow significantly."
While Apple is going to display this new technology this week, it likely will not be available to the public until sometime this fall. In the meantime, if you are looking to invest in a new Apple product - such as a Macbook Pro - be sure to shop with PortableOne today!
