Not only can Apple be know for its high-functioning, well designed computers, tablets and mobile devices, but the company can now be associated with a commitment to earth-friendly consciousness as well. For years now, Apple has been updating its loyal followers on its sustainability policy, as many executives feel that fulfilling a responsibility to the earth should be associated with the brand.
Just a few days ago, the folks at Apple updated their environmental policy pages, and though they didn't issue a press release or create any kind of fanfare about it, it didn't take long for someone at Bloomberg to notice and report on the updates.
Apple now gets power for its data centers from 100 percent renewable resources, including a solar energy farm next to its North Carolina center that recently became fully operational. This means that for cloud computing, Apple is relying on no coal whatsoever.
"Increasing our use of renewable energy is our primary objective," Peter Oppenheimer, Apple's chief financial officer, said in an interview about the environmental achievements within the company. "We think these efforts will result in learnings that other companies and communities can benefit from as well."
Overall, 75 percent of the electricity that all of Apple's facilities utilize is renewable, which is a 35 percent increase over just last year. In the interview, Oppenheimer confirmed that the company would continue with its efforts toward greening the company even more.
