One of the major complaints of any piece of technology - whether an Android, Macbook Pro or iPad mini - is the battery life. No matter how long these devices stay connected to a power cord, it always seems as if the juice can slip away all too easily. Apple is now working on a way to fix this, at least for some "peripheral" products currently on the market, in a way that could be expanded to other devices from the tech giant in the future.
Originally filed back in April 2012, Apple was approved at the end of last week for a new patent that would allow computers to become chargers for devices up to five feet away. This means that a wireless mouse or keyboard can be charged by a laptop with a wireless near-field magnetic resonance (NFMR), which enables it to power nearby devices. The batteries could then be cut out of these products, which would make them slimmer and more easily portable.
While this technology is limited and the patent does not include any plans for future iPhones or tablets, there have been rumors in recent weeks that the iPhone 6 - due to be unveiled in early September - could include this wireless charging capability. While that is certainly up in the air at this point, the patent could see itself being worked for other Apple products, which would be a major improvement for those who are tired of short battery life.
