A laptop that will not turn on can be both a frustrating and worrying experience. But just because your Macbook Pro won't show any signs of life doesn't mean you have to rush out the replace it. More often than not, it's an issue that you can fix on your own. As long as you follow a few simple guidelines, you should be able to get your Macbook up and running like new as soon as possible.
Here are a few ways to deal with a Macbook that won't power up:
- Disconnect third-party devices: Sometimes, a laptop won't turn on because of defective devices connected to it. Unplug any printers or mice and try it boot it up again. If those other devices were the cause, then your computer should start up again with no problem.
- Reset the System Management Controller (SMC): If the problem persists, you can try to fix it by resetting the computer's SMC. Simply remove the laptop's battery and then press down the power button for five seconds. Reconnect the battery and plug the computer into a power cord. Hit the power button and your computer should then turn back on.
- Try another power adapter: The source of the issue could also have to do with the power cord you are using. Instead of relying on the one that you've generally used, trying borrowing a different one from a family member or friend to see if that works. If your computer starts up, you know that you need a new charger.
