There have been plenty of tried-and-tested methods of extending the battery life of your smartphone, some more successful than others. While you should certainly be diligent about keeping your iPhone or other device charged properly, you should also be aware of what you are doing and whether or not it is actually useful in improving your battery's longevity. There are some absolutely great tricks out there to keeping your smartphone's battery running smoothly, but there is also just as much misinformation floating around too.
Here are a few common myths about improving the life of your iPhone's battery charge:
- Automatic brightness saves energy: While it might save you a little bit of power, the truth is that the difference is pretty negligible. In fact, you are better off setting your phone to the minimal level of brightness you need for you to be able to comfortably read the screen without straining your eyes.
- Turning off WiFi helps: Any of the apps that come on automatically - WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS - do not drain your battery at an exponentially faster rate. As a result, shutting off any of these apps won't do anything to help battery -- not to mention, losing these features takes the "smart" out of smartphone! What you should shut off, though, are apps that continue to run in the background -- such as Twitter and Instagram -- when they're not being used, as these can be a serious drain on your battery.
- You need to drain the battery completely: You no longer need to be worried about draining your battery completely before plugging it in. It can be charged at any time, regardless of how it near or far it is from 0 percent.
