Since the mid-1990s, Intel has been the leading brand in processor manufacturing. Though during this time, the computer brand on top has changed numerous times, it seems that the best ones always have "Intel inside." And new reports are suggesting that the company known for making reliable chips might go into the mobile arena soon.
The success of powerful mobile computing devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPad mini has led to a decline in PC sales, which has inadvertently hurt Intel's business. That motivation is why many analysts in the tech industry wonder if Intel is working on a deal with Apple to create new processors for these incredibly popular devices.
Analyst and investor Pat Becker Jr. told Reuters why he thought the deal could be mutually beneficial.
"If you can have a strategic relationship where you're making chips for one of the largest mobile players, you should definitely consider that. And for Apple, that gets them a big advantage," he told the publication.
The company is also involved in a search for a new CEO, another reason why analysts think that branching into the mobile realm would be likely. Plus, the fact that Apple already makes use of these high-quality processors in its laptops leads insiders to think it would be open to collaboration.
One thing is for sure, though it's hard to tell how Apple products could get any better, this could definitely be a part of the company's unwavering commitment to improving each and every one of its products on a regular basis.
