Though it won't come as much of a surprise to any commuter or devoted fan of Apple products, Apple's appears to be the mobile browser of choice. New data from industry research firm NetApplications was posted on Monday, indicating that the company's Safari application continues to gain popularity and market share, accounting for an enormous amount of mobile internet use.
For some time now, the internet application from Apple - used in the iPhone and iPod Touch as well as the iPad and iPad mini - has accounted for the largest amount of traffic among its competitors, but the usage continues to rise. The numbers for March have iOS devices generating more than three times more traffic than their Android counterparts, which came as a surprise to some in the financial sector, according to Fortune Magazine.
Though iOS devices are generally considered the leaders of the mobile pack, they are up against many competitors, and market share alone doesn't account for the large numbers in mobile online traffic that these devices produce. But anyone who has used an iPad or iPad mini knows that Apple makes its mobile devices in such a way that they are incredibly user-friendly and most people want to engage with them.
In addition to noting the popularity of the iOS platform, analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray suggested that, "iOS users are likely more engaged with their phones on a daily basis than Android users on average." The statement ended with a prediction suggesting that the firm - which specializes in market forecasts - anticipates that Apple's browser will stay on top for more than a year.
