The best things about the iOS operating system is the "Find My..." applications that are available for each of them. Through the iCloud, Apple can remotely locate an iPhone, iPad or iPad mini, even a customized laptop. But not everyone who owns one of these devices thinks to download the app and keep it running, and unfortunately some people lose their tablet anyway.
But for one Arkansas man who unfortunately lost his iPad on a plane, the Photostream feature was enough. According to reports, Allen Engstrom accidentally left his iPad behind, and assumed it was gone forever. But, like many Apple users, he had his iPad synced to the iCloud through his Apple ID.
And that's how he knows what the person who has his iPad looks like. The tablet is currently being held by a woman who apparently likes to take "selfies" with the front-facing camera on the device. Every time she does this - which Engstrom says is often - the photos get uploaded to the cloud and sent out to Allen and his entire family through their shared Apple ID.
In the hopes of getting his iPad back, Engstrom has been posting the pictures of its new owner online, and recently caught the attention of the media in doing so. He thinks it's all in good fun, but is hoping that all of the attention gets him his tablet back.
"Every time I get a picture of her it's like a continuing fountain of entertainment," he said in a television interview.
The folks at Apple probably didn't even know that this was an anti-theft tactic, but cloud computing seems like it could save the day for Allen Engstrom. When you have your iPad customized by PortableOne, we can ensure that the Find My iPad app is installed and turned on so that you hopefully get reunited with yours if you do end up leaving it behind.
