Chances are, these days, if you don't know something or want to find out more information about it, you Google it. Looking up facts on the search engine Google has become a major part of our society, and in that vein, one of the top year-end lists is the Google Zeitgeist.
The search giant compiles the top searches overall, and divides them by category in order to give a sense of the year's most important people, products and events. What was the top search of the year? Whitney Houston. The famed recording artist passed away in February, at the age of 48.
Other top-searched terms were "Gangnam Style," "Hurricane Sandy" and "iPad 3," which was one of several Apple-related search terms in this year's Zeitgeist. In third place on the images category was "iPhone 5," sandwiched right between "Selena Gomez" and "Megan Fox."
The consumer electronics top ten list was similarly Apple-filled, with "iPad 3" taking the top spot in the category, but not to be outdone, "iPad mini" and "iPad 4" also cracked the top 10.
The full list gives insight into the year's most popular athletes, movies, TV shows and events, as well as a look into the zeitgeist of each individual country by breaking the results down geographically. Interestingly enough, though the James Bond movie "Skyfall" was second worldwide, it didn't even crack the top ten in the United States.
The Google Zeitgeist is an interesting list for anyone to check out, and the presence of Apple products in so many of the categories solidifies the iPad as a major Christmas present this year. If you've elected to buy one of these neat gadgets, you should have yours customized from PortableOne and make everyone on your list happy this year.
