For the second year in a row, the Apple iPad was given the highest customer satisfaction reports among tablets by J.D. Power and Associates, a consumer ratings agency. The iPad beat out rival products from Samsung, Amazon, Acer and others.
J.D. Power and Associates' U.S. Tablet Satisfaction Study measures several criteria, including how likely are consumers to repurchase a tablet from the same company, as well as technical considerations including performance, ease of operation, styling and design, cost and features. These categories were all weighted according to importance, with performance receiving the most weight and cost receiving the least.
The other competing products failed to rate higher than "about average".
The survey also provided some interesting statistics about mobile device usage and habits, including the fact that 51 percent of tablet users share their device with at least one other person. Additionally, consumers who were the sole user of their tablet reported gave slightly lower satisfaction ratings than people who shared their device with another person.
Kirk Parsons, senior director of telecommunications services at J.D. Power and Associates, said that this statistic could have broad implications for Apple and other tablet manufacturers in formulating business strategy.
"It is important that manufacturers understand this dynamic and try to provide an exceptional experience for all users since this may improve future business prospects, as high satisfaction through sharing a tablet device may result in owners handing down their tablet to a family member or friend, and the likelihood of repurchasing a new tablet from the same brand and running the same operating system increases," Parsons said in a news release.
Back in March, a similar survey had declared the iPhone to have the highest customer satisfaction ratings for the ninth year in a row.
