iPhone 7’s Piano Black to replace Space Gray
According to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could reintroduce a black option for the iPhone 7. “Piano Black” is the name of the new color option reminiscent of the iPhone 4, which was the last all-black iPhone, prior to the iPhone 5, when Apple switched to a more sleek and metallic appearance across all iOS devices.
Black and white were popular choices in the first ten years of the 2000’s, however the shift towards a brushed metal look was consistent with the idea of electronics as a more integral part of daily life, rather than a geeky novelty. Choosing brushed metal options like Space Gray, and Gold, made the iPhone and other devices look more like jewelry, giving them a stronger appeal as items that blend anywhere, from an office desk, to a coffee table.
It is unclear at this time if the new color will also be introduced with future versions of the Apple iPad Pro, or even future MacBooks, considering that such has been the trend with colors like Space Gray and most recently, Rose Gold with the 12 inch MacBook Retina.
The specs of the new handset are expected to feature a new A10 ARM chip, 2GB of RAM for the regular model, and 3GB or RAM for the iPhone 7 Plus, with storage options ranging from 32GB, 128GB and 256GB. By this token, Apple is officially no longer offering a 16GB option.
The rumored dual camera on the iPhone 7 is becoming a real possibility, which means that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will both feature 12MP dual-lens cameras, equipped with a telephoto lens on one side, and a wide angle lens on the other, allowing for previously unseen capabilities, such as being able to take HDR photos with variable focus levels, that enable iPhone 7 photographers to edit the focus after taking a picture, for a richer bokeh effect, and similar options.
The iPhone 7 is also expected to be waterproof, further corroborating the several patents filed in the past few years by Apple to that effect. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 7 will be capable of submerging 1-meter deep, and for up to 30 minutes.
In the wake of detractors reacting to the news that the 3.5mm jack will no longer be built into the iPhone 7, will find comfort in the fact that Apple will include a Lightning-to-headphone-jack adapter, which will allow to use regular headphones and earplugs.
