iPhone 6 production problems might delay release
Apple(AAPL) is reportedly suffering a production problem that might delay the release of the device till next year, for at least one of its most anticipated devices.
As reported by the Toronto Sun, the delay will affect at least one of the two iPhone 6 models currently in production, as reported by Bloomberg in June. The Apple iPhone 6 will come in two different screen sizes, a 4.7 and a 5.5 inch screen, whose former is still 20% bigger than any existing iPhone, putting the device in “phablet” territory.
The iPhone 6 release will be revolutionary for the company, opening up the device to an audience of Android and Windows Phone users. Larger screen size has been a long time coming to iPhone users, and at least one reason for some to switch to other platforms.
A bigger screen is becoming a synonym of more mobile productivity, opening devices to more sophisticated business applications, which makes a 5.5 inches iPhone screen, let alone a 4.7 inch version, a very desirable product, bundled with the stability and security of iOS.
The 5.5 inches model is likely to be affected by a production bottleneck, according to an unconfirmed source of the rumors, quoting Taiwan based KGI Securities, as one of the go-to destinations for Apple news leaks.
The 5.5 inches model could face delays due a production bottleneck affecting the metal casing, as well as the touchscreen. The latter of which has been object of great speculation, since confirmation of sapphire glass supply, from GT Advanced Technologies.
The reports do not mention production problems connected with the 4.7 inches model, nor the Apple iWatch.
