Windows Live Writer is making a comeback to the Windows Store

Widows Live Writer comes to Windows 10 devices

Blogging is the single most popular activity on social media, second only to micro-blogging (Facebook, Twitter), and online shopping. For those who blog on a Windows laptop or tablet, like a Surface Pro, Microsoft has a treat from the glory days of Windows Live, when Microsoft first began contemplating a future of cloud-connected services.

Windows Live Writer was a beloved application among bloggers and writers, as it was easy to set up, and readily compatible with most popular blogging platforms including WordPress and Google Blogs.

This week, Windows Live Writer is back, and available from the Windows Store as Open Live Writer. This is actually a port of the original Windows application, into a universal app that can be quickly downloaded and installed across multiple devices, from a full-size desktop, to a small laptop or tablet.

For those expecting any significant changes from the original, Live Writer is not yet capable of offering anything more than it already had in the beginning, which is direct compatibility with a number of online blogging sites. This also means that Live Writer is not a tool that one can use to manage a WordPress blog in its entirety, in reference to features like comment moderation, and other functions aside from creating drafts and posting live.

Other than that, formatting options are all there, and while the interface is still very much as it was in 2007, it’s possible that Microsoft may soon polish the interface to make it look a bit more “office-like”.

Using Windows Live Writer on a tablet or a 2-in-1 like a Microsoft Surface Pro, seems to be the most ideal way, as the interface is very compact and comfortable to operate, even with a virtual keyboard.
