Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14901: testing File Explorer notifications
Even after releasing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft is still working on adding improvements and features, and pushing them to Windows Insiders.
The latest Insider build 14901, released this week, has been rolled out gradually to Insiders of the fast ring, over the course of a couple of days, and, as promised, it won’t feature any radical changes to the interface or user experience, but rather a number of bug fixes and internal patches. These changes cover “...structural improvements to OneCore which is the shared “heart” of Windows across PC, tablet, phone, IoT, Hololens and Xbox...”, as quoted from the official post on the Windows Blog.

With this build, Microsoft is testing only one UI feature, which displays notifications within File Explorer, designed to provide information and hints on how to make the most out of File Explorer. These may come in the form of popups, and are expected to function as rudimentary help system.
It’s unclear yet whether the feature will survive past this build, or if it will evolve into something more sophisticated, such as a proper help system akin to a modern version of Winhelp.
Issues with this build
There are two main issues that have been reported by Microsoft in reference to this build. The first is that support for kernel debugging over 1394 is temporarily removed, to be reintroduced at a later time, through an upcoming kit release.
The second issue may be a little more annoying, as it affects Adobe Acrobat Reader, which crashes upon launch.
If you are a windows Insider in the fast ring, and would rather not deal with the issues reported, just roll back to a previous build, or switch to the slow ring, to receive more stable builds.
