Windows 10 Enterprise will roll out August 1st

According to latest reports, Enterprise customers, and volume licensing customers, could get Windows 10 as early as August 1st, right after Insiders, while individuals are advised to reserve their copy of Windows 10 in advance, to ensure prompt delivery on their system.

The reason behind the slight delay, is the projected mass upgrade of devices worldwide, with wildly different specs. According to Myerson, Microsoft is looking to gather as much feedback as possible, and evaluate as many systems as possible, to ensure that customers will have the best experience:

“...If you reserved your copy of Windows 10, we will notify you once our compatibility work confirms you will have a great experience, and Windows 10 has been downloaded on your system...”

This fits in with what we have been hearing and reading about “Windows as a Service”, which is essentially how Microsoft has been delivering updates to Insiders, since the first inception of Windows 10 Technical Preview.

Microsoft’s Volume Licensing Service Center will begin to roll out Windows 10 to Enterprise customers on August 1st, as previously mentioned, however, there will still be evaluation processes, which Microsoft will keep a close eye on, in order to provide compatibility information to companies looking to upgrade.

This is a big leap forward for Microsoft and for Windows users, as “Windows as a Service” means, no more Service Packs, or complex update procedures, and most importantly, less time wasted in restarting the system after minor updates. Having said that, restart-prompting updates will still occur, however the users will have the option of scheduling exactly when they can allow the system to restart on its own, without being constantly nagged by a tray icon.

Most recently, Microsoft has published a comprehensive Windows 10 chart, which illustrates the differences between editions, while providing a better explanation of how updates and upgrades will be handled between versions of Windows 10.
