Windows 10 Boot Camp issue kills new MacBook Pro speakers
One great thing about your Mac is that it can run other operating systems as well, natively, via Boot Camp, an app baked into every Mac’s operating system, which allows to boot the host computer into other operating systems, such as Linux, and Windows.
Microsoft Windows 10 has been reportedly running on many Macs, since its launch last year, with spectacular performance, often matching the speed and reliability of many Macs’ native operating system, including macOS Sierra, all the way back to Mac OS X Yosemite.
Owners of the latest MacBook Pro with OLED Touch Bar, who have installed Microsoft Windows 10 on their brand new laptops, have been reporting what seems to be a serious issue with the way Windows 10 governs the built-in speakers.
The issue, reported by both Boot Camp users, and those who have been running Windows 10 in a virtual machine, such as Parallels for Mac, causes audio to malfunction, when the volume is higher than 50%.
Symptoms ranging from volume imbalances to more serious permanent damage to the speaker, have been traced back to a bad driver provided by Boot Camp. Fortunately, the issue doesn’t seem to be affecting any prior version of Apple’s desktop operating system. In fact, Mac OS X users have not reported any instance of this problem, making this a macOS Sierra-specific issue.
The good news is that Apple had quickly addressed the issue, considering the permanent nature of the damage inflicted so far on new machines. Owners of a brand new MacBook Pro, should update macOS Sierra to the latest version, before attempting to install or run Windows 10, either via Boot Camp, or via Parallels.
