Will Apple release a new Macbook Air Retina this month?

According to tech news site BGR, unnamed sources are reporting of a possible Apple event taking place as early as the end of this month, in which the company could unveil a new Macbook Air, featuring a Retina display. Speculation about a Macbook Air Retina date back to over a year ago, when several news sites and blogs prognosticated the announcement.

From what we can expect, within reasonable probability, Apple is likely to announce, at the very least, the commercial release of the Apple Watch, as well as iOS 8.2.

iOS 8.2 will feature several fixes and enhancements, but the biggest one of all will be the rollout of its support for the Apple Watch.

Why a Macbook Air Retina?

Apple has worked on important features that will most likely be part of future Macs, such as the reversible Type-C USB connector, and MagSafe Inductive Charging, which is the same technology used to power the Apple Watch.

A Macbook Air Retina has been highly anticipated by fans, especially according to leaked specs regarding its minute size, only 12 inches, which brings the alleged soon to be announced device, closer to Chromebook territory. A 12 inch Macbook Air Retina, if confirmed, would certainly widen the range of options available to Mac users looking for a smaller, lighter, more portable laptop, with a longer lasting battery life.

Rumors are spreading about the Macbook Air featuring a Broadwell Core M processor, which could noticeably extend the Macbook Air Retina’s battery life, while contributing to a thinner design.

Whether or not the rumors are true, Apple is more than ready to take the stage, considering the very optimistic Apple Watch sale predictions made in recent months.
