Which MacBook is right for you? New, Pro and Air specs comparison.

new macbook and air pro comparison

Since the announcement and simultaneous unveiling of the New MacBook, consumers have been trying to understand just how well does this new laptop stack against the existing line up.

Each MacBook has its own strengths to consider, as well as each individual range of options and specs, concerning portability, battery life and processing power.

Apple is also about to upgrade its existing lineup with some of the brand new tech brought by the new MacBook, such as the latest Intel Core M CPU and the Force Touch trackpad with integrated Taptic engine.

In the table below, we have created a fairly detailed view of the different specs, from the new MacBook, to the MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air.

A few considerations are in order:

While the new MacBook’s clock speed seems to be a bit behind the Pro and the Air, it’s important to remember that the new MacBook has been designed for portability, wireless connectivity, and battery life. The new laptop’s logic board pushes the boundaries of optimized internals, which brings us to our second observation: the MacBook Pro is the only one of the group to feature 16GB out of the box, with the MacBook Air starting at 4GB.

Storage-wise, the MacBook Pro offers up to 1TB, while the new MacBook and the MacBook Air out of the box setup goes as far as 512GB of flash storage.

When it comes to display quality, both the new MacBook and the MacBook Pro leave the MacBook Air in the dust, as the only MacBook still featuring a backlit display, instead of the Retina.

The MacBook Pro, however, is not too far ahead of the New MacBook, as far as display resolution, featuring a 2560x1600 pixels resolution, while the new MacBook boasts 2304x1440 pixels, on a 12 inch screen.

Battery life in this chart is based on wireless web usage, which is far from helpful in building realistic expectations, speaking of which, by replacing every port with a single USB Type-C connector, energy consumption is considerably lower.

When it comes to wired connectivity, the new MacBook is a lot closer in the type of usage it’s likely to get, to a MacBook Air. the Air currently features 2 USB ports, to Thunderbolt ports and one HDMI connector, same as the MacBook Pro.

the the new MacBook, it really comes down to user experience, style and weight. The completely redesigned keyboard, with the proprietary “butterfly” mechanism, offers a greater typing experience, than that of conventional keyboards. The Taptic “Force Touch” trackpad is also remarkable, as it has no moving part, with the clicking simulated by an electromagnetic core, rather than mechanical components.

The choices of colors are definitely in tune with Apple’s new design direction, aiming at making every device recognizable as the latest Apple products.

The MacBook Pro and the new MacBook are priced the same, however the differences between the two are substantial. Many have already agreed that the price tag is not undeserved, in consideration of the care and detail of the new laptop, inside and out.
