What else will we see on the “See You On The 7th” besides the 2016 Apple iPhone?
Wednesday, September 7th, at 10:00am, Tim Cook will walk the stage of Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, to introduce the Apple iPhone 7, alongside a possible range of product refreshes and updates.
Speculation about the new device has given rise to debate on the possibility that the 3.5mm headphone jack will be eliminated, in place of the Lightning port, which will serve as both the charging mechanism for the iPhone, and the primary connector for a new generation of accessories, including headphones and earplugs.
Some of the wildest rumors have hinted to the iPhone allegedly eliminating the home button as well, and integrating the Touch-ID fingerprint sensor inside the touchscreen, however it is extremely unlikely that we will see any of these features in the iPhone 7, as much as more tame, but significant improvements, such as the elimination of the antenna lines on the back of the handset, and a pressure-sensitive home button, which will use force feedback, to minimize wear on the home button, and quite possibly allow for impermeabilization of the device.
On this note, by looking back at the several patents filed by Apple in regard to constructing waterproof devices, there might be a chance that the iPhone 7 might feature fluid repellent technology within key areas of the handset like the speakers, the Lightning port, and the power button.
Other devices
Not much is known about other devices, but the Apple Watch 2 is a strong possibility, as the wrist-worn computer is almost overdue for an upgrade. Possible features may include a 35% larger battery, designed to power a more powerful processor, and a GPS chip. The Apple Watch 2 could also cater to swimmers, as it could feature improved waterproofing, and swim tracking.
No new iPad yet
It’s unlikely that we’ll see the rumored 10.5 inch iPad Pro next week, or any new iPad refreshes, until 2017, when Apple is expected to completely overhaul its iPad product line. With that said, it’s possible that we might get a glimpse of what’s coming.
That is also not likely, as Apple is expected to host a separate event towards the end of the year, which could feature a number of highly anticipated Mac refreshes, including an all-new MacBook Pro, and a few more hints on the future of the iPad. While it is still uncertain, there is word of a new Mac standalone 5K Apple display, said to replace the retired Thunderbolt display, which could give way to more hints about a possible re-focusing on desktop Macs other than the iMac Retina.
