This old iPhone has no touchscreen or Touch-ID, but you'll still wish you had it!
Retired Apple products, especially on the larger side, have been repurposed at the oddest household items: from iMac G5 displays turned into fish tanks, to any number of Mac products transformed into mailboxes, file cabinets and more.
On Friday, Reddit user 92JMFL posted images of what, on first glance, seems to be a giant iPhone 3G prop, purchased privately, the same day. The gigantic prop has been measured at 36 inches tall, 20 inches wide and 4 inches thick, which is a rather accurate representation of a scaled-up version of Apple’s 2008 handset.
The most interesting part of this novelty is the fact that within the prop, hides a working 30 inches Cinema display, whose connectors have been cleverly shaped to resemble an iPhone’s white headphone wires. From the images provided, we could identify the Cinema Display’s cable sticking from a hole on the back of the unit, which splits into the DVI connector, and two USB 2.0 connectors
The promotional oversized device was commissioned as part of a campaign advertising the iPhone 3G almost 7 years ago. Once the campaign was over, nearly all props were believed to have been destroyed, until one unit was found through a private sale, although no details have been revealed from the Reddit users who posted the images (images courtesy of Oversteer Photography, UK).
Weighing at 30 pounds, the display is rather heavy, and cannot be hanged using a regular wall mount, however its owner is currently considering turning it into a coffee table, or similar conversation-started.
