This may be the best and smartest dock for the iPad Pro

The Logitech “Logi Base” is a $99 dock, designed for both the 12.9 inch version and the 9.7 inch version of the Apple iPad Pro.

The dock has an elegant and minute profile that allows the iPad Pro to stand at an angle, without taking up more space on a surface than the tablet itself.

While most docks are designed to hold a tablet in portrait position, due to the position of the charging port, the Logi Base does not use the Lightning port on the iPad Pro, but rather the Smart Connector, located on the side of the tablet.

The Smart Connector is primarily designed to connect the iPad Pro with accessories like the Smart Keyboard, but it can also be used to charge the iPad Pro.

Logitech, once famous for making some of the most advanced accessories for desktop PCs, like its G-Series gaming keyboards, and pioneering innovations into optical tracking technology for mice and trackballs, has been making a name for itself, for designing Apple accessories, including one of the first keyboards for the iPad Pro, the Logitech Create, also powered by the iPad Pro’s Smart Connector.

Smart choice

On a hunch, it makes perfect sense for Apple to invest more into the Smart Connector, than in other types of connector. The technology behind it is designed to fit into devices too thin even for the Lightning connector, which is great news for the company, as the next iPhone, the iPhone 7, is predicted to be even thinner than the iPhone 6, with rumors still circulating about Apple to eliminate the standard 3.5mm audio jack.

It’s also very possible that Logitech will focus on the Smart Connector even more going forward, as the company seems to have found a niche, considering the fact that Logitech, just like Apple, has always had an eye for design
