Nokia X expected to run Windows Phone as Microsoft restructures
In the midst of a planned lay-off involving one-third of Microsoft current hardware division, under the direction of Stephen Elop, whose public memo reveals more details on the company’s direction, news surface on the future of the Nokia X smartphone. The device, currently running Android, will eventually adopt Windows Phone, while the company is preparing to downsize on its design workforce in Finland, and most likely abandon manufacturing in Hungary, altogether.
It was never a mystery that the biggest changes by Microsoft center on Windows Phone. the company is yearning to finally build a presence on the mobile market.
It his public memo, Stephen Elop has been quoted as saying that “with a set of changes already implemented earlier this year in these teams, this means there will be limited change for the Surface, Xbox hardware, PPI/meetings or next generation teams.”. Elop further elaborate on how Windows Phone is set to become a platform targeting users across the income spectrum.
It’s worth noting that although one third of the hardware division under Stephen Elop will be downsized, the remaining workforce will not need to worry, as Microsoft new focus on mobile, comes with the promise of increasing resources assigned to the development of Windows Phones and future devices.
On a side note, the new direction Microsoft has taken, shows a 3% increase in pre-market trading. Confidence is rising, as the company shows commitment and a clear plan to appeal to mobile users.
