New 2016 MacBook Pro gets Knight Rider retro treatment, and rainbow cats

The OLED Touch Bar on the latest Apple MacBook Pro, is perhaps the most controversial design decision Apple has made in these last couple of years, aside from the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack from the iPhone 7.

The touch-enabled auxiliary display, which replaces entirely the traditional row of physical function keys, which also includes the Escape key, for good measure, has been both praised and criticized, with merits for creativity and functionality, and critiques in regard to the missing Escape key... and little else that comes to mind.

Aside from the mourning of the loss of the physical Escape key, the ability to enhance interactivity with a number of high-end applications, including Adobe Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro is something that gave way to wish lists of applications that could benefit from the Touch Bar, as well as what we can only assume is going to be a chaotic mix of useful and gimmicky apps.

Knight TouchBar 2000, coded by Anthony Da Mota, and posted on GitHub, turns back the clock to the mid-1980s, with a Knight Rider-themed chaser animation, which also includes the original show’s theme song.

The app doesn’t do much else, except for making its mark as the first Knight Rider-themed Touch Bar screensaver, but the fun continues with two more apps, also made available on GitHub: TouchFart and NyanCat. The former is a self-explanatory sound board, while the latter is the popular animated pop-tart shaped feline, popularized in 2011 by LOL-Comics.
