The New 2016 15 inch Apple MacBook Pro edits and processes video in Final Cut Pro twice as fast as 2012 Retina predecessor
The brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro is not only the most interesting (and yes, even a bit controversial) laptop made by Apple in quite a few years: it’s also the most powerful by a long stretch.
Turning the clock back to 2012, the original MacBook Pro Retina model, evidence shows just how fast the new MacBook is, and according to tests conducted by video editor Peter Wiggins, it seems that the latest and greatest MacBook Pro outperforms the original 2012 Pro model by a factor of two.
The test involved two identical projects in Final Cut Pro, containing identical libraries, featuring effects like multi-cams, chroma key, drop shadow, repositioning, and other special effects, running for a total length of one and half minutes.
According to Wiggins, the 15 inch MacBook Pro showed him “...the most stable HD broadcast output...” he’s ever seen, which entailed the processing of 2000 HD frames per second.
In addition, the display on the MacBook Pro features a wider color range, and a far more accurate rendering of video and stills.
As a side note, wiggins tested the 13 inch model as well, which was surprisingly usable within certain settings and video editing requirements.
The comparison with the 2012 MacBook Pro seems appropriate, considering that many MacBook owners tend to keep their Macs running for several years before retiring them. The number of owners of a 2012 model are most likely still hefty today.
