Ever since pre-orders kicked off last week, the numbers for the newly announced Microsoft Surface Book have soared to a point where the new high-end hybrid laptop has officially sold out, and it’s not hard to understand why. The new device, soon to become a flagship product for Microsoft, comes in five different configuration, from its entry level options, starting at $1499, with 128GB of storage and Core i5 CPU, to the high-end, top of the line Core i7 with nVidia GeForce GPU version.
The extremely versatile nature of this laptop makes it very palatable to diverse categories of consumers, from home users to high-end business customers, combining advanced processing, and a detachable display that doubles as a tablet, which operates independently from its base, in a battery-saving low power configuration that is perfect for on-the-go tablet operations.
A recent teardown of the Surface Book was published early this month, showing the innards of the device, with footage showing internal components, compartmentalized in clear plastic, however, this was done mostly to ensure the safety of the hardware, while enabling attendees to examine the parts in details.
The video shows several of the innovations implemented in the new device, including the muscle wire release mechanism for the display, the two sets of batteries split between the display/tablet removable component, and the base unit where the high-end GPU resides.
Microsoft has put quite a bit of work into the Surface Book, to make it as thin as possible, without compromising on features, especially with such hefty upgrade options available.
