Microsoft Windows 10 next redesign: more polish, with a hint of macOS
Tired of the same old flat Windows 10 look? While Microsoft has invested plenty of resources in making Windows 10 more reliable, robust, ubiquitous and versatile than any other Windows operating system, the original look and feel of its interface remains a little rough around the edges, with a flat, minimalist, yet almost blocky design that lacks the finesse and detail of competing operating systems, including macOS and a number of Linux desktop UI’s.
According to recent leaked screenshots, it appears that this trend is about to change, and Windows 10 could get a complete UI refresh, pretty soon.
At the time of this writing, we are actually in the process of downloading the latest Windows 10 Preview Build 15002, and we don’t know yet whether the new interface will be included in this new build. With that said, what we can gather from the leaked screenshots is nothing we haven’t anticipated.
An Aero Glass feel is indeed returning to Windows, sans the horribly blocky and embossed corners of Windows Vista (or its terribly unstable kernel). Incidentally the frosted glass effect works rather well with Windows 10 flat interface, in a way that’s evocative of macOS Sierra, but with a definite Microsoft flavor to it.
Microsoft Windows 10 is clearly designed around clarity, and well-padded elements. Padding works throughout the interface, but until now, that same padding has a very primed feeling, like a coat of paint without any gloss or other finish. Its flat and dull, to a point where some times, apps with matching colors would blend with the interface, and make it difficult to see their delimiting edges.
With this new design, the blurred transparency seems to work in favor of a clearer design that leads the eye, and provides a pleasant landscape for the eye to pan and track.
MSPoweruser was able to obtain the leaked screenshots depicting what might just be an upcoming refresh of Windows 10 in the near future, also for non-insiders.
3D interactions will also be a part of the experience, which could see tight UI integration with HoloLens, as well as other VR products recently announced.
Windows 10 Creators Update, otherwise known as Redstone 2, could potentially include the refreshed UI. The update is set to reach regular users, this April.
