Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Core Pro goes 64-bit
Builders of Internet of Things devices looking for one more reason to try Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Core, are in luck, as Microsoft, in a recent blog post, has announced the release of a 64 bit version of the operating system.
What this means for developers and builders is a smoother transition between Windows 10 IoT Core and Enterprise, by eliminating the need to write separate firmware packages for different devices.
In simpler terms, developers looking to design IoT systems for enterprise customers, will be able to do so in a much cleaner and streamlined way.
Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Core is a free version of Windows 10, which can also be obtained by purchasing a number of Raspberry Pi boards.
Speaking of which, the board support package for Raspberry Pi has also been made available as an open source package, to allow developers to build a more customized experience, according to program manager for Windows IoT, Brett Bentsen.
Microsoft has been making a serious push to get programmers and builders to choose Windows 10 as their development platform of choice, by introducing features, such as the impending integration of a Ubuntu Linux core, as part of Windows 10, which will bring a native, full version of the Bash command shell, as well as other beloved applications like Emacs, awk, sed and vi.
Microsoft’s objective is to enable developers and builders of IoT devices to be able to code applications for as many concurrent platforms as possible, including Linux, Android, Mac OS X and iOS, with a growing list of features that is going to be part of Microsoft Visual Studio, as well as the enhancement of core functionality within Windows 10.
