Microsoft OneClip is a clipboard app with super-powers!

Microsoft is allegedly working on a new application that will allow users across multiple devices, and operating systems, to share clipboard data, from one device to another, regardless whether it’s running Windows 10, iOS, Mac OS X, or Android.

The source from which this information originates is Twitter user @h0x0d, who posted a screenshot of what seems to be a disclaimer acceptance page, of Microsoft’s new secret app.

The text displayed on the disclaimer goes as follows:

“With OneClip, it's easy to get back to the stuff you've seen and used. It might be a photo you took, a screenshot you made, a phone number or address you copied on your PC (and really need now while you're on the run) or just an important piece of text. OneClip makes this available to you automatically, on your behalf, on all your devices. A cross device, secure, intelligent clipboard in the cloud. Why didn't anyone think of this earlier”

Microsoft OneClip

If the rumor is anywhere near accurate, this app could be an instant hit, as it would simplify an overly convoluted process.

The purpose of a clipboard is to save temporary information, a bit like a human brain’s short term memory function. Often enough, users find themselves in a situation where they find the information they need, but on the wrong device, and the process of moving that information using alternative means, such as email, or note-taking apps, like Google Keep, can produce an unnecessary bulk of data, permanently stored, and forgotten once its purpose is fulfilled, in the same way as dusty, scattered old Post-It’s in a drawer.

Microsoft OneClip sounds like a fantastic idea that would allow to temporarily save information on an iPhone, and retrieve the same information on an Android phone, on a MacBook or on a Windows laptop, and then discard it after it’s no longer needed.

The screenshot posted on Twitter, shows an email address possibly associated with the app’s development team: oneclipbetafeedback@microsoft.com.
