Mark your calendar for Apple's September 9th iPhone event
Next month, on September 9th, Apple will be taking the stage for an unusually big annual iPhone announcement. This year, the venue is set to take place at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, whose structure has a capacity of 7,000 seats.
Apple is expected to unveil the much anticipated iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, whose specs are still unclear, in spite of leaks and rumors. With that in mind, what we can reasonably expect is Force Touch integration in the displays, a technology that is already being implemented in the Apple Watch and in the latest MacBook laptops. A new camera could be also part of the upgraded smartphone, with specs rumored to dwarf the iPHone 6 and 6 Plus.
Rumors on a new, smaller battery have leaked from Chinese news site CNbeta, reporting that Apple will replace the current 2910mAh battery with a new 2750mAh. A smaller battery doesn’t necessarily mean less battery life, and there is a strong possibility for a reengineered display and logic board, designed to increase the efficiency of the device.
The event will be very much geared around iOS, and the tagline “Hey Siri, give us a hint”, seems to provide a clue on what else we could expect, both in terms of new devices, iOS 9 and watchOS 2. Mac OS X El Capitan should also be ready to be released to consumers.
iPad Pro
With no official confirmation, one way or another, on the rumored 12.9 inches iPad Pro, we have to wonder if the September 9 event will actually have a “One more thing” moment, to give us a hint about this fabled product, and the stylus that should come with it, at least according to a mix of rumors and information from the US Patents and Trademarks Office.
The brand new iPad is likely to set itself aside from any previous tablet, in a similar way as the 12 inch MacBook did, if recent history is anything to go by.
Apple TV
With each iOS related event, the hope for an updated Apple TV acquires further momentum, and September 9 could be the perfect time to unveil an updated version of the set top box. The reason is very much in the tagline for the event, which promises to hinge primarily around Siri and related services. According to the latest rumors, Apple TV will integrate voice control through Siri, and the updated set top box has also been given a code name, J34, at least according to supply chain rumors. A modified version of iOS 9 will likely power the new TV streaming box.
