Marc Newson's Apple Mac Pro-inspired draft beer machine
While the exact role of famed designer Marc Newson is still one of Apple's best kept secrets, Newson's latest beer machine design is, while not admittedly, seemingly inspired by one of Apple's flagship products, the Apple Mac Pro.
The machine, called the "Heineken Sub", commissioned by Heineken, is 41 centimeter long, and in the shape of a cylinder.
The first units, available worldwide, will be in silver, with a limited edition in black, offered to French and Italian customers. Of course there is no mention or apparent plans for a gold, or white version, which would be a spectacular hint.
Newson is justifiably tight-lipped about his current projects at Apple, yet the designer is known to speaks through his work, and this might just be a clue of Apple's future plans on any Mac product.
Of course, choosing a not-so-vaguely Mac Pro inspired design for a beer dispenser is a design choice that makes sense beyond Apple, as it is not a product commissioned by Apple. As Newson puts it, beer is manufactured, stored and consumed in cylindrical containers, which makes the shape of the Mac Pro almost "accidentally" perfect, alas, hiring a world famous designer means big plans, well beyond what we have seen at the latest Apple event.
News and rumors surrounding a refreshed Macbook Pro, iPad and a new iPad Pro coming in 2015, along with an initial batch of the Apple Watch, seems consistent with a fresh take on the design of future Apple products, and judging by the radical redesign of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, it appears obvious that a change has begun.
Since the announcement and introduction to Apple Pay, Apple is determined to break grounds at retail level. Does this mean a potential, perhaps temporary partnership between Apple and Heineken? Who knows, but it is fun to speculate.
