Want to know what the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro looks like and works, before you get your hands on the real thing? A demo app published on GitHub, by Robbert Klarenbeek, is designed to emulate the OLED Touch Bar on any Mac, and even on iPads.
Needless to say that without a touchscreen, using the app is going to be a point-and-click affair, however the functionality of the Touch Bar interface does reflect what one would see on a new MacBook Pro, as far as the TouchBar changing its configuration depending on the current running application.
The experience may be a little more enhanced, though rather clunky, if the app runs on an iPad connected to a MacBook, via USB. In such case, the app will be able to access macOS, and interact with the application in focus on the laptop.
The app can be found at the following link: https://github.com/bikkelbroeders/TouchBarDemoApp/releases, and those who plan to try it on an iPad will have to fiddle with side-loading it into iOS. macOS Sierra users, on the other hand, may need to Ctrl+Click and choose open, when loading the application, to override security settings. To activate the app on a Mac, we can just press the Fn key, and the Touch Bar interface will open at the bottom of the screen, ready to directly interact with any application compatible with the Touch Bar.
