Littlstar App brings 360-degree video to Apple TV

360-degree content has been available for a while, however, producing 360-degrees panoramic video footage, has been exceptionally difficult to accomplish, due to costs, as this type of video requires a much higher resolution than regular static video.

Littlstar 360-degrees video now available on Apple TV

Finally, the advent of 4K resolution recording hardware, has made 360-degrees video, more cost effective, with this type of content available on more platforms than before, including a number of VR headsets, and most recently, the latest iteration of Apple TV.

Early this week, New York-based video production company Littlstar has announced a new app that gives owners of Apple TV, access to a library of 360-degree video content from Showtime, Disney, Discovery, PBS, Mountain Dew, National Geographic, Red Bull, and more.

The free Littlstar app is designed to work with the new Apple TV Siri remote, which enables viewers control of the angle of the video they are watching, using the remote’s built-in trackpad.

Most of the content available on the app features impressive video quality, with several contributions from Experience360, 360Lab, and RapidVR featuring beautiful settings and destinations from around the world.

Nature walks and swimming with sharks is not all that’s available on Littlstar. Live concerts, and even original movies are beginning to surface on this app, which is becoming something of a VR version of YouTube.

Among some of the most interesting (and oddest) clips we have come across, “360 Camera Crash” is worth watching for those who’d like to know what it feels to be 4 inches tall, and fly off the roof of a moving vehicle, into oncoming traffic. With that said, plenty of content is also dedicated to news and information, such as RYOT, a channel dedicated to public awareness on social and environmental issues.
