Is the iPhone 7 going from Plus to Pro?
According to rumors sourced by Japanese blog Mac Otakara, and Taiwanese supplier Catcher, the next major iteration of the iPhone, could integrate a number of features introduced with the iPad Pro.
According to Mac Otakara, the iPhone 7 will be similar in size to the iPhone 6S. As previously rumored, the 3.5 audio jack is expected to disappear, with that said, it appears that its primary replacement won’t be the Lightning connector, but a Smart Connector similar to the one on the iPad Pro.
On the iPad Pro, the Smart Connector is used in conjunction with the Smart Keyboard, however it’s entirely possible that the iPhone 7 will come with new accessories designed for the new connector.
By that token, a new line of docks and accessories designed for the Smart Connector, could be in the works. Apple has shown a greater focus on accessories in recent years than it ever has, especially since the inception of the Apple Watch.
In the concept images provided by Mac Otakara, two sensors can be seen on the upper edge of the handset. These two sensors could be used for anything, including a possible dual-speaker system, although, due to battery concerns, Apple could end up opting for the same Monaural speaker present in current iPhone handsets.
The camera on the iPhone 7 might also feature a dual lens, as a combination of a wide-angle and telephoto, to allow for greater accuracy and sharpness, as well as better bokeh effects. Dual lens cameras are expected to become standard to greater numbers of future handsets.
One question that remains unanswered is whether the new handset will support Apple Pencil. The size of the device is expected to reflect the current iPhone 6S Plus, which would make the smartphone big enough for a stylus to make sense. With that said, Apple Pencil needs a Lightning port to recharge, which makes an unlikely case for the iPhone 7’s Lightning port as a charging method for the Apple Pencil.
