I recently compared the 12” Apple iPad Pro vs Microsoft Surface Book. Now, I wanted to compare it to the Apple 12” MacBook.
I’m not going to breakdown the specs on these - that’s already been done. Rather, I’m going to cover usability and my observations and opinion for which worked best for me with the hopes that this real life review helps in your decision making process.
Both the iPad Pro and MacBook were light and impressive. One simple thing I like best with the Apple MacBook (all their laptops really) is that it only takes one finger to open the lid. They perfectly balanced the hinge to make this happen. With any other PC laptop I’ve used I need to hold the base down in order to get the lid open. I know they call these “clam shell” laptops, but they should be as difficult as a real clam to open.
The keyboard on the 12” MacBook has received critical reviews but I’ve grown used to it to the point that I prefer it. Other keyboards just seem old fashion in comparison. I do have to prefer it to the Smart Keyboard for the iPad Pro though. I’ve never liked the rubber keys many keyboard covers have.
On operating system alone the MacBook has to win every time for work applications. For simple home use, if that was all I needed, I would trade in my MacBook for an iPad as my only device. Since I’m not retired yet, I have to keep with the Mac. Productivity is everything of me and iOS just isn’t there yet.
That’s my take on the MacBook vs iPad Pro. Next, how does the MacBook compare to the Surface Book?
