Flashback: The original Apple Watch turns 20

YouTube user Jonathan Morrison from TechFast takes us back to 1995 with the original, and very first, Apple Watch. Many tech enthusiasts, at least those who collected enough Summers to remember the bygone days when the World Wide Web introduced itself into our lives, might remember the stylish device, offered by Apple as an incentive to upgrade to “System 7.5”, which will be later known as “Mac OS”, alongside the productivity app Conflict Catcher 3.

Even without the amazing tech we will find in the incoming 2015 Apple Watch, the device has struck a chord in the heart of a few of the people to whom Morrison has shown the watch.

The characteristics that jump up at first glance are the thin design, and the choice of a metallic build, in a fun, but stylish color theme. “...It has Steve Jobs all over it...” tech enthusiast and YouTube user “GeekyNerdDad” Larry Dickerson commented, during a series of interviews conducted by Morrison. Of course it’s unlikely that Steve Jobs had any direct input on the creation of the watch.

Many of those who offered their opinion on the device were understandably too young to remember it, and some were not even born, yet, the watch has gained positive feedback on the look, which is not as retro as one would expect, for a watch designed in 1995 for a tech manufacturer, as a promotional item.

Some commentators have noticed a strong resemblance with the work of French watchmaker Alain Silberstein, although no confirmation has been brought forth.
