Dropbox, one of the major players in cloud-based file storage, has released a new version of its app for iOS, with some major features designed to improve workflow and multitasking on Apple iPad Pro and other compatible iOS 10 devices.

One of the most useful new features is the ability to include Dropbox items right in the MEssages app in iOS. This means that users will be able to share files and folders while chatting. This feature should be most useful in videoconferencing scenarios.

The new app comes with lock screen widgets capable of interfacing with the app. For instance, iPhone users will be able to scan documents and upload them into their Dropbox, from the lockscreen, as well as getting notifications whenever a shared file is being updated.

Other features include the ability to sign PDF documents, as well as other capabilities targeting power users and business customers alike.

The update will be followed by additional patches promising better multitasking on iPad Pro, by enabling Split View, and Picture-in-Picture functionality to play video clips stored within Dropbox from the main app.

Much like other apps like Evernote and Google Keep, the ability to display Dropbox as a side app in split view is priceless, and has the potential to appeal to users who like to dynamically save clips, documents and files to Dropbox, for research and social media sharing, without having to switch between Safari and Dropbox.
