Construction of new Apple spaceship headquarters moves ahead warp-speed!
Apple didn’t slow down for the holiday, as construction of its futuristic new headquarters pushes forward.
New aerial images have appeared on the Mercury News, this morning, outlining what appears to be a three story parking structure, the main theater, and the main office building.
Cal-State construction management professor, Justin Reginato, commented positively on the progress made so far:
"They're making great headway out there, that's how you know they're in a big hurry, because normally you would stage each of those separately."
In most cases, each portion of a project this massive would require subsequent phases, but in this instance, Apple chose to award several firms with different sections of the new campus, speeding up the process tenfold.
Apple further motivation in wanting to complete the project sooner, is the current costs associated with leasing office space in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, for its more than 3000 employees.
Construction crews have been spotted on site on Christmas Eve, and are likely to be back to work today.
One of the most exciting aspects of the project is the conversion of the old Hewlett Packard campus into parkland and open space. The main goal of the building is to be as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.
Construction of the new Apple campus is expected to be
complete by 2016, and will offer a staggering 300,000ft. of research and development space, for as many as 13,000 employees.
